She had been arrested by Canadian police at Vancouver International Airport in December 2018 due to an extradition request from the United States, which accused her of fraud in an attempt to circumvent its sanctions on Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The US pulled its charges and extradition request on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmprc.gov.cn\/mfa_eng\/xwfw_665399\/s2510_665401\/t1909814.shtml\">claimed<\/a> that the US and Canada\u2019s detainment of Meng had been \u201cpolitical persecution\u201d and that the \u201cso-called \u2018fraud\u2019 allegation\u201d against her was \u201ctotally fabricated.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has long been a fully proven fact that this is an incident of political persecution against a Chinese citizen, an act designed to hobble Chinese high-tech companies,\u201d the spokesperson said. \u201cWhat the United States and Canada have done is a typical case of arbitrary detention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shenzhen\u2019s Ping\u2019an International Financial Center skyscraper welcomed Meng home on Saturday with a message of support lit up on the side of the building, while supporters of Meng welcomed her home with signs at Shenzhen Bao\u2019an International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>As her plane landed, Meng <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/globaltimesnews\/status\/1441771394837073923\">expressed<\/a> relief at having \u201cfinally returned home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter more than 1,000 days of suffering, I finally returned to the embrace of my motherland,\u201d she said, adding that \u201cwaiting in a foreign country was full of suffering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just hours after Meng\u2019s release on Friday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/535788-trudeau-release-canadian-citizens-china\/\"> announced <\/a> that two Canadian citizens accused of espionage and collecting sensitive information, Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, had been released from a Chinese prison and were on their way home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From RT.com China\u2019s Foreign Ministry has rejected the United States\u2019 charges of fraud against Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou, which led to her detainment for several years, calling them \u201ctotally fabricated\u201d and an act of political persecution.
