finishing touches to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/diplomacy\/article\/3134500\/china-space-stations-giant-robotic-arm-sparks-concerns-us\">robotic arm<\/a> on the Tiangong space station.<\/p>\n<p>The foray, the second spacewalk in two months and relayed on state television, is part of China\u2019s heavily promoted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/chinas-space-programme\">space programme<\/a> which has already seen the nation land a rover on Mars and send probes to the moon.<\/p>\n<p>In June, three crew <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/science\/article\/3137330\/blast-chinas-shenzhou-12-manned-mission-build-space-station\">arrived at the station<\/a>, where they are set to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/science\/article\/3137655\/what-will-life-be-astronauts-china-space-mission\">remain in space<\/a> for a total of three months in China\u2019s longest crewed mission to date.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>On Friday, astronauts Nie Haisheng and Liu Boming successfully exited the Tianhe core module to install foot stops and a workbench on the station\u2019s robotic arm, the China Manned Space Agency said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Video footage showed the astronauts working outside the spacecraft while tethered to it with a long rope.<\/p>\n<p>Their tasks also include working on a thermal unit and adjusting a panoramic camera, state broadcaster CCTV reported.<\/p>\n<p>This marks only the third spacewalk for Chinese astronauts, after the first in 2008 \u2013 when Zhai Zhigang made China the third country to complete a spacewalk after the Soviet Union and the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/science\/article\/3139751\/chinese-astronauts-carry-out-countrys-second-spacewalk\">took place in early July<\/a>, when Liu and the third crew member, Tang Hongbo, left the station.<\/p>\n<p>It is China\u2019s first crewed mission in nearly five years and a matter of huge prestige as the country marks the <a
